The result is the same. Every major notation software program can read and write MusicXML files. The MusicXML format has "only" existed for 10 years, and it has gone through several revisions in that time.

If I had to purchase notation software again, I might purchase Finale, simply because more people I know use Finale and I want to easily collaborate with other musicians in this way.

Tried with Sibelius 6 - wait, here the Finale import has been dropped - why? It's fundamental to every one of us.

Others where able to work with me, but i was not able to work with them. Yesterday was the big day! We have said many times that MusicXML export is on our list of possible future features, and it simply has to compete with every other feature request in terms of priority.

I find the present situation "interesting" in the siibelius that, with a little added expense, you're not limited to sharing Sib files only with other Sibelius users. I do love sibelius, and i do prefer to work on it a million times over than on finale. There is an unbelievable amount of this done in the education world in the USA, especially among those who are involved in marching band arranging.

But all of those programs are playback-oriented with notation as a secondary feature. The only benefit of having written a MusicXML importer for writing an exporter is having developed an understanding of how the MusicXML file format works. Back to top All threads.
